A lot of people ask me what they can do in order to get a better score on their Cambridge English exams. Some of the answers may surprise you! Here are my top tips.

First of all, start reading a lot in English, anything that you want. Newspapers, blogs, and novels are all good places to start. If you are a beginner,  you might want to try some graded readers that have been adapted to your level. The important thing is to read for at least 20 minutes every day. You’ll be surprised how much you learn.

Second, start keeping a vocabulary journal, but watch out! I don’t just mean a list of words to memorize. Instead, every day write down an interesting new phrase or word you've recently heard, and then also write down a new sentence that’s personal for you to help you remember. For example:

"Startled"
I heard this word when my friend said “ you startled me”. It’s similar to surprise.
I was startled when the wind blew my door shut.

At the end of each week spend some time reading your previous entries and seeing if you can come up with any new sentences that use those expressions.

Third, practice mindfulness. Now, I know you’re thinking, “What does mindfulness have to do with Cambridge exams?” and my answer is this: everything! Taking an important exam can be stressful, and we need to take some time out to relax and take care of ourselves. It’s also true that many suffer from exam day jitters and having some breathing techniques to help you calm down can be essential. There are also mindfulness techniques that can help you maintain your focus during a long exam. If modern mindfulness (apps such as Headspace) isn’t for you, traditional practices such as the Catholic rosary or Yoga can also serve as meditation training.

Last, but not least, invest in a course with an expert trainer. A good ESL teacher will help you not only with your language abilities, but give you valuable insights into exam strategies, managing your time, making the most of your strengths and minimizing your weaknesses.

With hard work and a good strategy, you will definitely be able to improve your score. Keep learning!

🇮🇹 Molte persone mi chiedono cosa possono fare per ottenere un punteggio migliore negli esami Cambridge English. Alcune delle risposte potrebbero sorprendervi! Ecco i miei migliori consigli.
