Tania teaches young learners and business students
All the way from South Australia to the South of Italy in the summer of 2019 for what started as the adventure of a lifetime, turned into a dream come true and a permanent move to the city of Naples, Italy, 3 months later, where she has become an integral part of the British Community teaching team.

An amazing person. Positive, resilient and highly supportive, she is a pleasure to work with and our students agree! Meet our Australian teacher, Tania..

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

With a background in Training and Development in business and high knowledge and skills in English,  i wanted to explore other options internationally. What better way to do this than teaching languages as it allows me to combine my skills in companies and English, all whilst living in a country I love.

Which is your preferred age group / course to teach and why?

I have two specific preferred age groups, each at different ends of the spectrum. Young learners aged between 6-9 years old and advanced, business, adults.

With a corporate and Human Resources background in Australia,  I can apply my skills, knowledge, expertise and experiences, not only the English language but in the principles of business overall.

Teaching young learners is also great when you see the smiles on their faces when they understand a new word or term, seeing them grow and learn a new language and to know you've assisted, provides a great feeling.

Tell us a funny moment you've had in class.

Too many to count, but one in particular was with an advanced business class and having them listen to specific Australian accents and having them try certain Australian foods. The comments that followed were extremely funny and memorable!

What do students find most difficult and how do you help them?

I think most of my students at any age have a distinct fear and lack confidence when it comes to speaking English, which is completely normal. I can understand this 100% as I know what it's like to learn a second language and use it in everyday life. So, I put myself in their shoes and adapt to their fears and insecurities to guide them and promote their confidence.

What do your students love most about your classes?

I think I'm a pretty fun and easy going person in everyday life and it progresses into my teaching. I'm of the mentality that you have to have fun (at any age), which makes  learning a language easier. It can't be boring or else you will never want to learn. My young learners always want to play card games and tell me about their days and what exciting things they have been up to.

My more advanced students usually want to discuss life topics and general knowledge, always asking me questions about my home country and my opinion on current events and situations in their own lives which is great because it means I've established good relationships and trust with them.
